Probate Pricing

The costs involved in administration of an estate can vary and will depend on the individual circumstances involved.

We offer a fixed fee where we are asked to obtain the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration (collectively known as a Grant of Representation) in simple estates.  The Personal Representatives would provide full details of the assets and liabilities in the estate and would then administer the estate themselves.

  • Grant of Representation only (IHT205 short form) From £1,750.00 plus VAT (currently charged at 20%)
  • Grant of Representation only (IHT400 long form) From £2,250.00 plus VAT

If we deal with the whole estate administration we can offer an hourly rate where you will only be charged for the time spent on the matter.

We can help you through the difficult process by obtaining the Grant of Representation and continuing to administer the estate on your behalf.

The range of fees will depend on issues such as the number of beneficiaries, the number of assets and whether the estate includes any property.  We can handle the full process for you and will give you a detailed costs letter based on the estimate of time required.

For example:

  • Estate value up to £50,000.00 with no property and 4 bank accounts – From £2,250.00 plus VAT
  • Estate value up to £325,000.00 with a property and 4 bank accounts – From £3,750.00 plus VAT
  • Estate up to £650,000.00 with a property and 6 bank accounts – From £7,500.00 plus VAT

Disbursements

We will also pay third parties on your behalf at relevant stages in the transaction.  For example the Probate Court fee is £273.00.

The costs detailed above do not include any conveyancing required for the transfer of a property which will be charged for separately.

There may be factors which increase the time spent and the total costs.  Where there is likely to be additional cost we will make sure you are informed of this at the earliest opportunity and a clear estimate will be provided.

How long will this take?

On average, estates that fall within this range are dealt with within 6-12 months. Typically, obtaining the grant of probate takes 8-12 weeks. Collecting assets then follows, which can take between 6-12 weeks. Once this has been done, we can distribute the assets, which normally takes 2-4 weeks.
